Hello Zack,

Hey buddy! It was a privilege to being one of the student nurses to care for you during your recovery from your recent operation at Children's Hospital. Although, you may not remember this nursing student I will never forget you. Your internal strength and awesome personality are unforgettable. Oh, and one more thing those parents of yours are really special people. Take care of them won't you!

Best Wishes,
Ryan M.

Hi Zack

Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your News from Home. Congratulations on your A's and perfect attendance. Excellent! See you in May so we can go to a Cardinal's game together! And we want to see those Clydesdale Horses!! Love you and can't wait for more news from you....

Love Uncle Art, Aunt Mary and Beau

Thank you so much for the update on Zack. I really enjoyed seeing him on video, after seeing him in photos over the last 6 years or so. His Aunt Mary Crane first told me about him when he was about 3, I guess. He sure is a special little guy. I can tell that God has big plans for him. I pray for Zack on every occasion I think of him, and I greatly enjoy keeping up with his progress.

Thank you again for sharing the news!

Hey Zack, thanks for coming down to University City Fire Department last night and eating dinner with us. It was a great time and I hope you enjoyed the ride in the Ladder Truck. You can come here anytime you want and ride in the trucks, just remember to bring your helmet with you. Have a great time at the telethon this weekend and make sure you tell your parents to bring you back to U. City real soon.

See you soon......

Hello Zack,

It was so wonderful meeting you and your wonderful parents Sunday at the Christmas party!!! I know Fredbird is a little crazy, but it's all in fun! Hope you enjoyed him! You are such an amazing young boy...WOW! You definitely can do anything you set your mind to-that's for sure! Keep smiling and shining bright, leaving a mark wherever you go! Not many can forget someone as special as you! It was a pleasure meeting you Sunday! Oh...and the next Cardinals game you attend with Mom and Dad, keep an eye out for some t-shirts headed your way...I have a better aim than most people think-ha!ha! Tell mom and dad hello for me! Keep in touch!

Your Friend,

Annie Gitto (Team Fredbird)

Hello Zack,

I met you yesterday at Gateway International Raceway. I was in the Bugeye Technologies booth. That's the booth where you went in the air conditioned trailer to drive the simulator. While you were racing I was talking to your mom. My brother-in-law, Mike, owns Bugeye. He told me about your website. WOW!! It is a very full site and I have thoroughly enjoyed it this morning. I like the newsletters, the photos, and I played some of the games! What fun!

Looking at all the pictures of everything you have done wore me out! You sure are an active boy! It looks like you have been to some fun and exciting places. I see you are a HUGE racing fan. I love racing too and have since I was about your age (and I am WAY older than that now!). I even had my own racing set too with lots of track and lots of neat looking cars (today those real cars are antiques). I also love rodeos, bullriding, and the St. Louis Cardinals!!

I have watched the MDA telethon for many years and usually make a donation. I song Jerry Lewis always sings at the end "You'll Never Walk Alone", has been a special song to me and to family members ever since I started watching the telethon. Last year I was in the local MDA Lock-up. Every year I am very proud of what the Firefighters do for MDA. You see, my dad is a retired firefighter from the St. Louis County area of Affton. He retired as a Captain after 37years. So, I grew up with a lot of firefighters in my life. Then, when I got married, my husband became a volunteer firefighter in the 2 small towns we have lived in. He was even chief for a lot of years. He helped out in alot of Fill the Boot days.

I also am a physical therapist. I know you know all about that!

After reading the information and looking at all the pictures on your website, I think it is so AWESOME to see all the great experiences you have had in your young life!! I think your parents, family, and friends are so awesome for enabling you to participate in all of these things. You are truly an inspiration!! You are a real HERO and a role model for all.

I enjoyed meeting you yesterday. I hope we meet again. I will continue to look for news and more pictures of you on your website.

Oh yeah, I have NEVER seen a bathroom quite like yours. It is the coolest!!

Take care and may God be with you.

Hello Zach, Saturday July 15. 2006

I'm Joseph Vocino(or what people call me know Joey) the brother of Matthew Vocino!! You have us in some of your pictures over the years. Just so you know who I am just look in your photo book under the years 1999 and 2001. But me and my brother have grown a lot more.Know I am turning 12 on July 24, and Matthew will be turning 10 on April 30!!

I am very pleased to be writing to you and one day I would love to meet you!

Bye for now, Joseph Vocino

Hi Zack it's Alex, Matthew's father.
Matthew has the same yours cmd with merosin deficiency.
Happy to see more news and picture on your site. You and Matthew are very similar in the happiness you give to others and also in
your cmd. Next july probably Matthew will have to put in his mouth the things to enlarge the upper teeth. He always has a manual wheelchair
but he can move by himself not for a long way. Maybe he needs an electric wheelchair, what do you think? We don't know even becouse it is very heavy and we don't have
our car prepared to lift an heavy wheelchair, so at the moment we don't think to buy one, but we know that maybe this will help Matthew to be more indipendent like as you are.
We will see. In two weeks Matthew will end the first year of primary school, he can read (not so fast) and he can write (capital characters) and we are very proud of him. Still going to swim twice a week and we change the physiotherapy. We are going in a centre only 6 km. from us instead of 30 km. Once a week but every day I strecht his muscle to keep muscle straight.
If you are going to plan a trip in Italy, just let me know: we can spent some days together.

Bye
Alex and Matthew and all the family, my wife Marina, and Chiara, Paola and David, Matthew's sisters and brother.

Hello Zach. I am a firefighter serving with the US ARMY in Afghanistan. I am not being a firefighter out here but I hope to when I get back. I hope you are doing very well and you are betting bigger and stronger every day. I will pray a special prayer for you and you be good for your parents..

Hello Zach! I sent another entry, but I was telling a story about how I met you and your mom and dad. I just wanted to say hello and I hope you had fun at the Monster Truck show last weekend. Your mom said that you started getting sick at the PBR event and that broke my heart that you didn’t get to stay and see it all. I know you were really excited about it. But hey, you stole the hearts of all those cowboys at the hotel! You were the star buddy. They were all coming to you to say “hello” and give you their autographs and taking pictures with you. You are an incredible young man Zach. You touched my heart and I want to thank you for inspiring me to be a better person and to go out and live life for every minute it is there. I enjoyed meeting you and hanging out with you so much. Thank you again for letting me hang my jacket on your chair too. J That made it easier on me…lol. Well, I’ll be keeping in touch. You take care of yourself and I hope you are feeling better and you are out taking on the world again real soon!

Your Friend, Kellie

Hello. I met Zach last weekend and I fell in love with him. It was a very funny situation really. My husband and I drove to Saint Louis to attend the Professional Bull Riding event and on Saturday morning there was a “meet and greet” and the hotel and I wanted to get autographs from some of my favorite bull riders. I went up to the ballroom to get in line, and I was lucky enough to get right behind Zach and his parents. I started talking to him about who his favorite cowboy was and spent a lot of time just listening to him talk to his mom and dad and was just becoming smitten with this sweet young man in his wheelchair. He had stickers all over his chair for Nascar, PBR and other things that he enjoys. The whole time we were in line, I kept thinking that Mary, his mom, looked very familiar to me. We were in line together for over an hour and then proceeded into the room where the cowboys were. Zach let me hang my coat on his chair so I wouldn’t have to carry it. They were all such nice people to hang out with. I enjoyed watching the excitement in Zach’s eyes as he met the cowboys and got their autographs and some photos. He was just amazing. Afterwards I thanked them for letting me hang out with them and went downstairs to find my “missing” husband. We decided to eat lunch down there. A few minutes later, Zach and his parents showed up and they ended up sitting at a table next to us and it was then that Mary asked my husband if he was in Scottsdale Arizona last summer and it hit me that I did know her! It was so funny. We met last July at a computer conference and I knew she looked familiar and here we were in Saint Louis and ended up meeting again. The only difference was that this time I got to meet Zach. He touched my heart so much and I just fell in love with him. I contacted Mary when we returned and she sent me Zach’s web page. I am going to pass it along and maybe I can get some people to help with his trust fund or something. He is such a fighter and wonderful child. He deserves the very best and I hope he has many more happy years left to live because he was a true example of someone who has courage and a positive outlook on life. He inspired me!

Merry Christmas 2005

Hello Zack. Hope you are doing well and also that Santa has trouble getting down the chimney because his sack is so stuffed full of goodies for you, your mom and dad. It was fun being with you in Las Vegas, seeing the PBR, and hanging out. Hope we can get together real soon. Have a wonderful Christmas and let’s hoop-it-up in 2006. I love you much. Uncle Fuzz.

Hi Zack how are you doing? I'm Alex, my son Matthew is 6 years old and he has a congenital muscular dystrophy with partial deficit of merosine. He is good, he doesn't have a wheelchair yet, by now he moves on a sit position or with some things (we call it tutori, tutor) on the legs that helps him to walk. He likes very much the water and he goes twice a week to swim. In the pool he stands without helps, he goes underwater to find objects and he can swim on his back (he has a suit that helps him not to go underwater while swimming and to preserve the body temparature becouse the water is about 30 degrees c./ 86 deg. f). He also has physiotherapy twice a week. I hope to hear from you and other friends from all over the world news on our cmd with merosin deficiency.
A big hug to you and say hello to your parents from Matthew, Alex, Marina (my wife), David (Matthew's brother), Chiara (Matthew's sister) and Paola (Matthew's sister) that she will born at the end of March.

Hi, Zack. This is my first time visiting your website. What a precocious young boy to have taken on this endeavor. I am a mom whose once little boy (now age 24) has MD, which he inherited from his dad's side of the family. His symptoms began to appear when he was pretty young. Much younger than his da
s or his dad's sister. As his mom,I have some idea of the difficulty of coping with the symptoms of this disease. I love my son with all my heart, just as your parents do you. I am encouraged by the good news regarding some of the reseach and new treatments. Even ones that may reverse the disease! What we all live for is hope. No matter who we are. It sounds, from reading the posts, that you have a wonderfully supportive family, Zack. And a very loving one. This is SO important. With all our combined efforts, we can fight this disease. And connecting to others who have it, and family members of who those who do, helps in making one feel they are not alone. And also, "There is strength through unity." I don't know how old you are. So I hope I am not talking in words that are not yet in your vocabulary. But your parents can help you out, in case I am. God bless you- and your family, Zack. I will look forward to visiting you here, again. Wish I could see your picture. And I wish you a great day, EVERY day. Congratulations of all your accomplishments. Warmly, Jan

Hi, Zack! I stumbled onto your website looking for pictures of Give Kids the World for a school assignment I'm working on. My sister and I both have congenital muscular dystrophy, too! I'm 16, and she is 18. The Make a Wish Foundation granted my sister and I each a wish several years ago. Her wish was a trip to Disney World. We were so excited to find that we would be staying at Give Kids the World. It was much more than we expected. My wish was to tour the western U.S. We stopped at almost all of the national parks: Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Yosemite, Yellowstone, and we also toured San Francisco and Salt Lake City. They were great experiences, and I am glad to see that you are having so many great experiences like that, too.

It's not every day that you meet another person with CMD. Feel free to visit my website at www.caringbridge.org/ca/djustine

Take good care!!

From one Zak to another, Happy New Year! We have never met but I am good friends with your Aunt Sue & Uncle Doran and I met your Mom long ago before you were born. Hope you had a great Christmas, and that Santa brought you lots of toys! Did you get any "Monster Trucks" or "Rodeo

Am glad to hear that you are doing well. Miss Jeane, and Miss Christine have kept me informed on your recovery. Everyone at "Rocking 'R" are thinking of you, and we are looking forward to seeing you in the spring. I saw "General" last week, and I think he really misses you. He will be so happy when you come back to ride him.

Zack, get better soon....I am sending you a "BIG HUG"....did you get it?

General and I are thinking of you, and we will be so happy to see you this spring!

My name is Nicole, I used to work for your Aunt Mary & Uncle Art for years, I left in 1996 but have stayed close. In fact I remember talking with you Mary several times and Mary always spoke so highly of you. I have since married in 1997 and we were blessed in June with our baby Wyatt Morgan Fredson. There is nothing like being a parent, it's the best thing I have ever done. I really enjoyed seeing Zack's pictures on the website, what a cutie pie. We just saw Art & Mary in October at my Moms wedding in Montana, it was great to get to visit with them. My family and I wish you well and our thoughts will be with you in December.
